Searching the Glossary

Search over 10,000 definitions from the FC's glossary database.

Terms are taken from the Dictionary of Forestry, published by the Society of American Foresters; terms from the AgroAmbiente initiative; multilingual terms taken from the CAB Thesaurus; and entries compiled by our editorial team (see About the data for further details).

To search, simply type all or part of the term in the Search box. Select whether you want to search for defined terms that begin with, contain, or exactly match what you have typed. Choose which language to search in, and how many records to display per page. Click on Search. A list of definitions will appear in the screen below. Terms and definitions may also be viewed in French, Spanish, Portuguese and German for many glossary entries. Use the radio buttons at the bottom right of the screen to change the language.

The highlighted term on the list is defined at the right of that term. Click on a different term from the matching list, and the screen will refresh to display that definition.

Softlink: If you wish to look at the definition of one of the words included in your definition to help you understand its meaning, simply highlight the word and click the Softlink button (in the Menu bar). The definition will appear in a new window.
