The 2005 edition of the Forestry Compendium has been comprehensively updated from the 2003
edition to include over 500 new datasheets, new search facilities, and new
library documents.
The most significant area of enhancement in the 2005 edition is in the area
of forest pests. This is a substantial and significant addition, which will greatly
increase the usefulness of the FC for those involved in forest protection and
plant health.
A summary of the new material follows:
New features

Datasheets
For the first time the Forestry Compendium contains full pest datasheets,
over 450 in total:
- 200 specially commissioned for the Forestry Compendium
- 250 imported from the Crop Protection Compendium
Over 70 full tree datasheets added:
- over 20 new full datasheets
- over 50 outline datasheets upgraded to full
plus
Datasheet reviews:
- 150 tree datasheets have been generally reviewed or updated for the 2005
edition
- 80 tree datasheets have had their protection sections reviewed by experts
In addition, there are now over 5,500 pictures including:
- Over 900 new pest pictures
- Over 100 new tree pictures
The library has been enhanced and now contains over 70 documents
including:
- Case studies of Forestry Compendium use, specially commissioned from users
around the world
The 2005 edition also includes:
- Updated Tree Seed Suppliers Directory (supplied by WAC August 2004)
- Expanded glossary with pest- and disease-related terms including data on
pesticides from the 13th edition of The Pesticide Manual (2003), provided by the British Crop Protection Council
- Distribution data from EPPO-PQR database version 4.3 (2004)
- Data from CABI/EPPO Distribution Maps of Plant Pests and Plant Diseases,
2004
- Update of FAOSTAT Forestry Production and Land Use data from Food and
Agriculture Organization of the United Nations
- New bibliographic records from the CAB Abstracts database
- Updated economic/demographics data: from the World Development Indicators
database of the World Bank (dataset taken March 2004)
In addition, the Internet version of the Forestry Compendium has
been updated (see www.cabicompendium.org/fc for
details).
