The library contains a great variety of material and it is advised that users
spend some time familiarizing themselves with its content. It is possible to
print out a whole expanded tree of the contents table (see under Table of
Contents below).

As well as HTML documents, the library contains many documents in Adobe
Acrobat PDF format. If you have not done so already, you will need to install
Adobe Acrobat Reader on your computer. This can be done by clicking on the icon link
to the left. |
Searching the library
The library contents can be searched using the Table of Contents or Free Text Search.

Table of Contents
The library contents have been classified by Topic, Livestock Species and
Publisher.
The library contents tree (on the left side of the library search interface) can be navigated by clicking on folders to open
them and clicking on them again to close them. An expanded folder will either
display HTML documents
, PDF
documents
or internet links
contained within them, or subfolders further classifying the content. Select a
document by clicking on it, and it will automatically load and appear in your
browser. Web sites that can be reached by clicking on the classified Internet
links within the library will be displayed on your browser within a new window.
Obtaining a printout of the content
The whole table of contents can be expanded by clicking on the Expand Tree
link above the contents table. A printout of the whole, expanded contents can be
obtained by clicking the right-hand button of your mouse when the cursor is on
the contents table and selecting Print from the resulting drop-down menu. The whole table
should be allowed to expand before right-hand mouse clicking, otherwise only
that
part of the table expanded at that stage of clicking will be printed.
Free-text Search
Enter a word or phrase in the search box and then click the Search
button.
The results will be ranked according to the number of hits per document, with
documents containing the highest number of hits being displayed first.
Next to each document in the search results there will be an icon indicating
whether the document is an HTML file or an Acrobat PDF file. There will also be
an indication of the size of the file.
How the library in the CD version differs from that of the Internet version of
the AHPC
There are some differences in the content and searching capabilities of the library on the CD version of
the AHPC in comparison with that of the Internet version.
Searching
The Internet version of the AHPC is searchable using the table of contents, or a
free text search. On the CD, there is an index-based, keyword search, and table
of contents, but not a free text search capability.
Contents
There are some differences in contents of the Internet version of the
Compendium in comparison that of with the CD version. These differences arise because:
- It is assumed that users of the Internet version of the AHPC have full internet
access, whereas users of the CD version may not have access to the Internet.
So in some instances reproduced material is carried on the CD but, on the Internet
version, a link has been given to a website containing the material
direct from its publishers. However, care has been taken to include
important www links in the CD version of the AHPC for users who do have
internet access.
- The contents of the CD version of the AHPC is limited by the storage
memory available on the two CDs in the set. Consequently, there are some
sections of acquired material that are not available on the CD version due
to omission in order to include other information judged more valuable to
the Compendium.
