Compendium Search Using the Compendium search, you can search all areas of the Compendium for criteria you specify. All of the options listed on this page can be entered directly into the Compendium "standard search" box or entered from the Advanced search page. Which Sections do I Search?
By selecting the tick boxes below the search box, you may target your search at selected areas of the Compendium only. Selecting 'datasheets' will search all the datasheet records. Datasheets cover animal diseases, pathogens and parasites, as well as animal species and breeds. Note: If you know the name of a datasheet that you want to find, it is easier to use the Find-a-Datasheet facility. Search in bibliographic records? Include this option if you want to search in the database of bibliographic records. There are 72,000 bibliographic records available, many with abstracts. Search in the Animal Health and Production Compendium Library? Include this option if you want to search in the Compendium's Library. The library is a fully searchable collection of HTML and Acrobat PDF documents on health and production topics. You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to read the Acrobat PDF files. You can download the Acrobat Reader software free from the Adobe website. Search in the Drugs/Vaccines database? Include this option to search the active ingredient and trade name lists in the drug and vaccine databases (NOAH, IVS, PUBCRIS, FARAD, Green Book,
Manual de Produtos Veterinários). Alternatively, you can search these databases directly from the Drug Search page. Include this option to search for terms and definitions in the Glossary. How do I use the search?
Search for ALL words specified Searching for ALL the words specified is the default search. Simply enter the words you require in the search box and submit. The results that contain all of the words specified in your criteria will be returned. Exact Phrase Search Search for a complete phrase by enclosing the words in double-quotes (e.g. "animal housing"). "OR" Searches To search for results that contain either word A or word B, insert "OR" between the words (e.g. cattle OR cows). "-" Searches Sometimes more results than you want may be returned. In this case you can use the "-" symbol to narrow down the results by specifying words that you do not want to include. Simply place a minus symbol immediately next to the word you wish to avoid (e.g. meat -pork). Be sure to include a space before the minus symbol. Noise Words The Compendium search ignores common words and characters such as "when" and "where" as well as single digits and single letters. This is because they tend to slow down the search and add little to the relevancy of the results. If any of your criteria have been ignored, a message will be displayed asking you to re-enter your criteria without these entries. |
