Disease datasheets
Disease datasheets cover approximately 100 infectious diseases in detail, plus pathogens and other factors affecting the health of cultured aquatic species. These detailed knowledge reviews are compiled under standard subject headings by a panel of subject experts at institutions worldwide. All input is edited to CABI's established standards. Any chosen word or words in the text is available for Softlinking - through a dynamic tool that targets matching content in all other parts of the Compendium, dynamically and in real time.
Content includes the latest full-year geographic distribution dataset from Office International des Epizooties (OIE).
Many more diseases are covered in less detail: many derived directly from CABI's series of Fish Diseases and Disorders books, several hundred from DFO's Synopsis of Infectious Diseases and Parasites of Commercially Exploited Shellfish included as Outline datasheets, and some included as entries in the Glossary.
Note that many diseases are listed by the name of the infectious agent, e.g. Aeromonas hydrophila infections, as well as other names.
Disease datasheets may be returned from a Find a Datasheet search or Compendium Search.
The Disease datasheet cover page consists of some brief information, links, a cover picture and a world map containing recorded distribution. The cover page text contains brief information on the identity of the disease, its causative pathogens, the organ systems and animals affected. Follow the links to more information on these.

Further parts of the datasheet are accessible from the main Menu Bar, the composition of which will change to reflect the contents of the datasheet.
The menu choices are:
The information menu contains textual information and tables, giving more information about the disease. Click on an item on the list to see more. This information will appear on the cover page text window, or in a full page-width window in the case of some tables. The categories used in the Information menu come from a defined list:
Distribution information is also represented graphically as Maps, and contains distribution data supplied by our authors and from the Office International des Epizooties (OIE), and mined from the CAB ABSTRACTS database.
The reference list contains entries from the Bibliography, and where possible entries are linked to a CAB ABSTRACT.
Further information about health management is found in the Library.
Further information on particular diseases is found in the Glossary.
Pictures for a disease may be accessed by clicking the cover page picture, or by selecting Pictures from the menu bar. For more information on Pictures, see Exploring a datasheet.
Maps may be accessed by clicking on the world map on the cover page, or by selecting from the options on the Maps option on the menu bar. Maps plot information recorded in the Distribution table. References for disease distribution are presented (references from the Bibliography). For more information on maps, see Exploring a datasheet.
The Notepad function is available from datasheets. This allows you to record your own disease-specific notes, as well as more general notes.
To generate a report in HTML from a datasheet, open the Report menu and select Generate Report. This allows you to build a report containing the sections you want. For more information, see the separate section on Reports.
