Cultured species datasheets

Cultured species datasheets are available for approximately 300 species of cultured aquatic species, including finfish, crustacea, molluscs, algae and live feeds. Each datasheet covers taxonomy, life cycle, reproduction, nutrition and feeding, environmental requirements, health, genetics, behaviour, native and cultured distribution. The same editorial standards are applied to these as to the disease datasheets. Softlinking is available from datasheets.

Cultured species datasheets may be returned from a Find-A-Datasheet search or Compendium Search.

The cultured species datasheet cover page consists of a text summary, links - including those to Library topics on the species, a cover picture and a world map containing recorded distribution. The cover page text contains brief information on the identity of the species and a short description.

Further elements of the datasheet are accessible from the main Menu Bar, the composition of which will change to reflect the contents of the datasheet.

The menu choices are:

Information

The Information dropdown menu contains textual information and tables, giving more information about the species. Click on an item on the list to see more. This information will appear on the screen, replacing the cover page. To return to the cover page, select that option from the Information menu. The categories used in the Information menu come from a defined list:

The Diseases, Disorders section of a cultured species datasheet gives information about conditions as they occur in the particular species. For more information on diseases and disorders, consult the relevant disease datasheet.

Distribution information is also represented graphically as Maps.

The reference list contains entries from the Bibliography, and where possible each reference is linked to a CAB ABSTRACT.

Further information about many production-related issues is found in the Library.

Pictures

Pictures for cultured species may be accessed from clicking the cover page picture, or by selecting Pictures from the menu bar. For more information on Pictures, see Exploring a datasheet.

Maps

Maps may be accessed by clicking on the world map on the cover page, or by selecting from the options on the Maps dropdown menu on the menu bar. Maps plot information recorded in the Distribution table; both cultured and wild distribution. For more information on maps, see Exploring a datasheet.

Notes

The Notepad function is available from datasheets. This allows you to record your own species-specific notes, as well as more general notes.

Report

To generate a report in HTML from a datasheet, open the Report menu and select Generate Report. This allows you to build a report containing the sections you want. For more information, see the separate section on Reports.
