Case studies

About 130 context-rich case studies help link theory and practice in aquaculture and aquatic resource management. Examples cover the major aquaculture issues in extension, research and industry. For the first edition of the Compendium there is a South and South-East Asian focus on case studies with many being produced in close consultation with researchers, especially in Bangladesh and Vietnam.

Case study datasheets may be returned from a Find-A-Datasheet search or Compendium Search.

The cultured species datasheet cover page consists of some summary information, and links - including those to Library topics, a cover picture and a world map indicating the source of the case study.

Further elements of the datasheet are accessible from the main Menu Bar, the composition of which will change to reflect the contents of the datasheet.

The menu choices are:

Information

The Information dropdown menu contains textual information and tables, containing the body text of the case study and more links. Click on an item on the list to see more. This information will appear on the screen, replacing the cover page. To return to the cover page, select that option from the Information menu. The categories used in the Information menu come from a defined list:

Most of the descriptive text of the case study is given under the section Description. The Context section gives information about how this case study links with the theory-based summaries in our other datasheets.

The datasheet contains non-technical summary information in English and may contain summary information in locally relevant languages accessed from the menu item 'Non-English Summaries'.

The reference list contains entries from the Bibliography, and where possible each reference is linked to a CAB ABSTRACT.

Pictures

Pictures for cultured species may be accessed from clicking the cover page picture, or by selecting Pictures from the menu bar. For more information on Pictures, see Exploring a datasheet.

Notes

The Notepad function is available from datasheets. This allows you to record your own case study-specific notes, as well as more general notes.

Report

To generate a report in HTML from a datasheet, open the Report menu and select Generate Report. This allows you to build a report containing the sections you want. For more information, see the separate section on Reports.
